An explanation of several of Mr. Hogarth's prints, 1785.

Manuscript, in a single hand with numerous corrections, of a draft copy of Felton's Explanation of Several of Mr. Hogarth's Prints, which explicates eighteen of Hogarth's prints, including The harlot's progress; The sleeping congregation; The distressed poet; Marriage a la mode; Beer street; The stages of cruelty; and twelve others. The work includes a handwritten title page that mirrors the appearance of the printed work's title page, printed by J. Walter in 1785; the date of publication on this page has been corrected from 1784 to 1785. The manuscript also includes numerous newspaper clippings and printed extracts pasted in as footnotes, the texts of which also appear in the footnotes of the printed version. The manuscript, after corrections, accurately reflects the printed version.
